The MyHab Journey

Blog » The MyHab Journey

The journey for anyone in Melbourne thinking of addressing an addiction of any type and talking about rehabilitation is a difficult one. MyHab is here to demystify the process and reassure everyone of the positive outcomes just taking that first step can have.

Your call to us

We understand making that first call to us can be a very difficult step to take. Complex situations can be hard to talk about, even from behind a phone. Our centre is staffed with qualified support workers, counsellors and nurses, who understand how intricate and challenging these situations can be. 90% of our staff have gone through and broken the cycle of addiction themselves. Every time you speak to us, we endeavour to provide a safe space to talk through these issues and get you the help you deserve.

If you are calling for your loved one

We know that most of the time a loved one is the first person to contact us. They are looking for assistance before the affected individual is willing to go to rehab.

We are with you every step of the way. We can assist by providing ideas on how to set boundaries. We do this by providing techniques to guide you through the process of speaking to your loved ones, eventually getting them to a point where they feel comfortable and willing to talk to us. We then help them go one step further, where they feel the need to come in for an assessment with us.

We understand you’re emotionally involved, and that it can be difficult to convince your loved one to go to rehab.  You need someone that is impartial to the situation to help, and that’s us.

When we connect to you or your loved one

Our job is to get people into the right state of mind to have an assessment with us. They have to be willing to see that they need to do something about their situation. They need to understand that there is a viable solution available, provided by people who understand what they are going through and have been there before.

Assessment in person

During the assessment, it’s about connecting and building a rapport between us.

  • History: We gather some history to get a sense of where you are, what has been happening, and what’s brought you to us.
  • Explain addiction: We explain what addiction is, how it plays out, and how we can help. To see the solution, we must first recognise and understand the problem.
  • Outline of MyHab programs: We then explain how our programs work. Our aim is to spark hope and breakthrough enough denial so you can see the true predicament you’re in. We want you to believe that there is a solution, and it’s completely possible to break free. Once there is an agreement to proceed with a program, the next stage is the medical assessment.
  • Medical assessment: This includes detailing any medical history and previous medication use.
  • If the decision is not to continue: There is no obligation, the assessment is free and we can be contacted again.
  • Same-day service available: In the private sector, we can generally start treatment on the same day, or the following day.
  • Cost: We have different options tailored to you; our friendly staff can provide more information on this.

We create the program to suit your needs. This can include work and living situations, drug type and level of dependency. Once a program is tailored, a bed date is agreed upon.
